Matt Galloway - CBC at Thorncliffe Park Citizenship Events

On October 29th CBC Radio Toronto program went to Thorncliffe Park, a community in Toronto that is home to many new Canadians, to take part in the Citizenship Events that were occuring that day.  40 New Canadians were sworn in at a citizenship ceremony and Matt spoke to many of those people.  It was a festive affair I must say and all the people there, spectators and those being interviewed, I could tell, were absolutley thrilled that Matt and the CBC were there to recognize them.  Thorncliffe Park is one of Toronto's most dense neighbourhoods with well over 50% of the people who live there were born outside of Canada.  Here's a shot of Matt and some of the people in attendance -

I wanted to get some portrait shots of some of the residents of Thorncliffe Park for the Portrait Project but, because it was so hectic I was unable to do so.  I did get a shot of Matt who gracioulsy let me photograph him for the project.  Matt is an interesting subject and at first I thought I would just paint the portrait.  But then I got working on the Matt's photo in Corel Draw, Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop and created what I think are some interesting views of Matt.  It all started with this very quick pen and watercolor sketch...

I then scanned the sketch, re-worked the drawing in Corel Draw and then modified that sketch somewhat in Photoshop and Illustrator and I produced these portraits of Matt ...

I will still paint a photo of Matt in oil, but this proved to a very good exercise in learning more about Adobe Creative Suite, Corel Draw and how to create digital portraits.
Look forward to your comments on these.
